Job Description

The Department of Sociology at Providence College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Anthropology position beginning August 2018.

As the student body at Providence College grows increasingly diverse, we have a strong preference for candidates who demonstrate a deep commitment to and proven ability in supporting the success of students from historically marginalized economic, social, and cultural groups.

Essential Duties

The successful candidate must show evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and in the publication of qualitative and/or ethnographic research. The ability to teach a foundational course in Cultural Anthropology is required. The applicant will also be expected to teach additional courses in their areas of expertise. Geographic areas of interest include Latin America, Indigenous/Native America, and the Caribbean. Substantive areas are open but we have special interest in the built environment and environmental justice as well as political anthropology. The course load is 3-3 with a one-semester pre-tenure sabbatical.

Education and Experience Required

A Ph.D. in Anthropology from an accredited institution is required and applicants must have dissertation in hand at the time of appointment.
