Position Information

Job Title Assistant Professor of Global Studies
Rank Assistant Professor
Tenure Information Tenure Track
Job Description

The Department of Global Studies at Providence College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 2018.

We seek to hire an anthropologist with specialization in Africa and/or the black diaspora (special consideration will be given to applicants with expertise in the environment/environmental justice and/or global health inequities and human rights).

As our student body, and global studies majors in particular, grow increasingly diverse, we have a strong preference for publicly engaged scholarship, and candidates with interests in student-centered pedagogical and mentoring practices. Moreover, as students of color and their allies have demanded in college and university protests across the nation, we support the students’ desire to hire faculty who demonstrate a deep commitment to and proven ability in supporting the success of students from historically marginalized economic, social, and cultural groups.

Essential Duties

The course load is 3-3 with an option for a one semester pre-tenure research leave after three years of service as a member of the Ordinary Faculty.

Education and Experience Required

A Ph.D. in Anthropology or Africana Studies is required and applicants must have dissertation in hand at the time of appointment.
