Job Description

The English Department at Providence College invites applications for a tenure-track writing specialist at the rank of assistant professor commencing August 2018.

Essential Duties

Teaching responsibilities include first-year writing courses as well as writing courses at all levels. Pre-tenure teaching load: 1-2.

Administrative responsibilities include providing support for first-year writing instructors, including training, supervision, assessment, and personnel decisions in consultation with the English department; collaborating with English faculty in redesigning PC’s Writing Program; serving as lead coordinator for campus-wide Writing Proficiency courses in the core curriculum; and collaborating with the Writing Center to provide professional development opportunities to faculty teaching writing-intensive courses across the curriculum. We are particularly interested in candidates who can help faculty develop effective tools to promote the success of historically underserved students: low-income, first-generation, and students of color.

Education and Experience Required

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition from an accredited institution.

Candidates should possess a strong commitment to inclusive pedagogical practice and excellence in undergraduate writing instruction, the ability to establish a strong scholarly publication record, a willingness to be active in service to the college and the community, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Prior experience in Writing Program administration preferred.
