Job Description

The Departmental Office Assistant will work with faculty, staff and other student employees to assist with departmental, programmatic, and office-based projects to support the Department of Global Studies (GST) and the Department of Public & Community Service Studies (PSP) and their respective students. This position offers an opportunity for students to strengthen their soft skills in a warm, collaborative environment while working to to develop and implement programs across the two majors and the broader campus community.

Student employees work together as a core to collaborate on projects. The specific roles each student takes on, in relation to office work and program support, will be determined by the student and department staff based on interests and talents of the students as well as the project priorities of the respective departments.
Essential Duties:
• Collaborate with other student employees and the Program Coordinator, Chandelle Wilson, to maintain programs, including but not limited to: GST Peer Mentoring Program, Planning and facilitating community conversations, maintaining departmental social media presence, as well as serving as departmental liaisons for the PC campus community & beyond.

• Assist with Office Management: Answering phones, responding to emails, archiving and filing documents, on campus errands, photocopying, greeting visitors, organizing and maintaining shared spaces, and other duties as needed.

• Assist with GST & PSP academic and research needs, including but not limited to: freshman orientation, Major/Minor fairs, departmental open houses and assisting faculty and community partners as needed

• Oversee communications with current and future PSP & GST students, such as putting together monthly newsletters and updating official social media pages.

Required Qualifications

Student workers must demonstrate initiative and autonomy to be able to take on projects on their own and must be self starters.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have a familiarity with the Global Studies and Public & Community Service Studies departments.
